I hear the question alot: What is BarCamp Nashville?
Yes, it’s a day about technology.
Yes, it’s in Nashville.
But many of my friends and co-volunteers have already talked about what BarCamp is.
How about we ask what BarCamp is NOT?
BarCamp Nashville is not a high priced conference.
It’s free. Here’s the signup page.
It’s not in a swanky convention center.
It’s in a bar. The Tequila Cowboy bar to be exact.
There are no world renowned, larger than life speakers.
Anyone can speak and share their personal tech-spertise by submitting a session.
Aggressive exhibitors hocking thier wares?
Nope. We don’t even have an exhibit hall. You’ll see a handful of geek friendly sponsors off to the side who donated to BarCamp mostly out of respect for the Nashville Tech community.
Highly profitable for the organizers?
Not even. We hope to break even each year. There’s even an open ledger for all to see.
Fake smiles plastered on the underpaid staff as they take your money?
We’re all volunteers so the reason we’re smiling isn’t because somebody paid us to do it. We’re truly having a great time!
Lame corporate parties?
Hello! It’s in a bar, all day long! And there’s a great after party so you can hang with all your new BarCamp friends.
Awesome swag with strings attached?
Well, you will get a cool tshirt with #bcn12 plastered on it but you won’t have to signup for anything extra to get it. Just show up.
Overpriced convention center drinks from portable bars staffed by bored bartenders in bow ties?
C’mon, we’re at the Tequila Cowboy BAR in Nashville, TN, y’all!
Highly structured session grid with no flexibility?
Get this: we intentionally leave open spots for “Impromptu Sessions.” Show up, put your name on a spot and you can speak about whatever you want.
Prerequisite tech knowledge required?
Not at all. Part of the beauty of BarCamp is that you can come get exposure to things that you don’t know much about.
Haughty room monitors who scoff at late arrivals?
Actually, we encourage you to float around. There may be several fantastic sessions going on at the same time. Nobody will get offended if you come late or leave early.
What’s the Bottom Line on BarCamp Nashville?
It’s a free, laid back technology event at the Tequila Cowboy bar in Nashville on October 22. You need to be there.
Besides all the cool stuff you’ll learn, BarCamp is a great opportunity to meet other like minded people. The networking that goes on before, during and after the event is one of the many benefits of BarCamp Nashville.
Don’t know how to start networking? We always need volunteers so go signup to help. You’ll instantly be tied into one of the best tech networking opportunities in Nashville.
Or just show up and absorb some of the great info that’s being shared.
